Convenient locations are situated near all of this northern Virginia area's conference and convention centers. The city's extensive bus service connects riders with metropolitan DC's numerous public transportation options.

Reston was founded in 1964 as a planned community with the primary goal being the perpetuation of a high quality of life for its citizens. Cultural and recreational amenities, natural preservation and very careful planning are just a few of the municipality's many, still closely followed founding guidelines.

There are a number of ways to entertain oneself while visiting this endearing region of northern Virginia. To educate, enlighten and engage the mind, catch up on some geology facts and figures. Reston is home to the national U.S. Geological Survey Library. Also, the Greater Reston Arts Center and the Reston Museum are very interesting places to visit. The performing arts are well represented by the all-volunteer Reston Community Players as well as Voce Chamber Singers. Nearby, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts hosts performances throughout the year.

Reston Town Center serves as a central location for dining, shopping and entertainment. Free summer concerts, ice-skating in the winter and holiday celebrations and seasonal festivals that include Oktoberfest, a Holiday Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting, all conveniently take place at this downtown location. The Reston Market at Lake Anne Plaza is open May through November. Here, vendors sell crafts, clothing, textiles and jewelry. This is also the site of the Reston Farmer's Market, the best place in Reston to shop for locally grown produce.

DC is a short, quick train ride away. There, you may visit any of the important sights that honor past presidents, such as the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and the Theodore Roosevelt Island and Memorial. Other sights to see in nearby DC include the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the White House and the United States Capitol. For museum exhibits not to be missed, visit The Smithsonian, which consists of 19 individual museums, mostly located in and around DC. To the southeast, just west of DC, in Arlington, Virginia is Arlington National Cemetery. The Tomb of the Unknowns at this cemetery pays respect to the unidentified soldiers who died in service to the United States during both World Wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

The city's culinary options are plentiful. From fast food to fine dining, there is no shortage of options for the hungry traveler. If what you desire can't be found, once again, DC is but a quick trip away. The entire metropolitan DC area is populated by an almost endless number of high-quality restaurants.

For the fan of organized sports, DC offers a variety of thrilling spectator opportunities. The Washington Redskins play football at FedEx Field in Hyattsville, Maryland.
